Special Operations
The Special Operations Team is a group of firefighters who utilize specialized equipment and have obtained specialized training above and beyond normal fire suppression activities, particularly in the areas of handling emergencies which include hazardous materials and technical rescue operations, such as building collapse, confined space rescue, trench rescue, high-angle rescue, and other specialized technical rescue procedures.

Clinton Township Fire Department’s Special Operations Team has recently received delivery of a new Tractor Trailer rig, custom built to carry the team’s equipment. The FL-70 Freightliner Tractor with a computer/research center pulls a 16 bay, 38,000 pound G.V.W. trailer. Equipped with a 9,000-watt light tower and a 25 KW generator, the unit is set up for around the clock operations. On board equipment includes mass decontamination modules equipped with hot water machines, heaters and freestanding shelters. Level A HAZMAT suits, radiation monitors, toxic gas meters, oil booms, and over pack drums compliment the Hazardous Materials Group. The Technical Rescue Equipment includes Stanley Hydraulic tools, Demolition Hammers, Heavy Duty circular saws, confined space rescue tripods, 800 feet of SABA hose, (10) 60 minute SCBA, explosion proof blowers, rescue lines, block and tackle, full body harnesses, SKED boards and a vast assortment of hand tools.
