The Township participates in an agent multiple-employer defined benefit pension plan administered by the Municipal Employees Retirement System of Michigan (MERS) that covers all employees of the Township except fire and police.
MERS was established as a statewide public employee pension plan by the Michigan Legislature under Public Act 135 of 1945 and is administered by a nine-member retirement board. MERS issues a publicly available financial report which includes the financial statements and required supplemental information of this defined benefit plan. Public Employee Retirement System Investment Act
On December 31, 2016, Michigan Governor Snyder signed Public Act 530 of 2016 which amends Public Act 314 of 1965, also known as Public Employee Retirement System Investment Act (PERSIA). This act requires communities to publish a Summary Annual Report setting forth key information related to the pension system.
